Default Central Scotland Barefoot Professional Recommendations

    Hi all,

My mare was diagnosed in April after an extended period of unexplained lameness with navicular disease in the right fore, and secondary suspensory desmitis. Since her diagnosis she has been shod in raised heel heart bars and now normal heartbars, and has become sounder (approximately 1/10 lame in the right fore as categorised by a very well respected lameness vet) but not sound enough in my eyes.
I want to try taking her shoes off and going down the barefoot rehab road. Whilst my vet and my farrier have been very good to me during this and worked hard on my mare, neither of them would support me taking her shoes off.

With this in mind, I'm looking for recommendations for:

[1] A vet with experience of barefoot rehab for navicular horses, or at least one who will support me giving it a chance

[2] Either a farrier or a trimmer who will help me take her shoes off and shape her feet appropriately and correctly in balance for her, be that either with trimming or self trimming. Again, preferably with experience of barefoot rehab.

We are based in the Central Belt of Scotland, but I'm not opposed to having to pay more for someone to travel to us from further afield. Does anyone have any recommendations for me?

Steve Leigh from Nature's Way. He is involved with the Rockley Farm rehab (he made that lovely slo-mo barefoot video you may have seen), so deals with re-habbing many navicular cases. A really nice guy, really knows his stuff and explains things brilliantly (I have a pony with navicular, but he also looks after my barefoot wb x tb). He's based in Northumberland, but travels all over the country, I'm just south of Edinburgh and he is regularly around this area. Reasonably priced too.

Nick Hill still comes to Scotland to trim I believe. His partner is a vet too.

Second for Jane Cumberlidge. Sorted out our ponies wonky hooves and worked with us both to improve her farrier based anxiety issues.
